Many Kazakhs see meat as a vital link to our ancestors and nomadic heritage, some going as far as calling it the only bridge surviving centuries of imperialism. With our food traditions heavily relying on meat, does abstaining from it mean rejecting the connection to your roots?
With this work, I aim to redefine what cultural authenticity means to us Kazakhs and how we honor our pre-colonial past in a post-colonial world.
The poster was made using analog techniques. A sheep's head is printed on the back and is visible under a certain light, a symbol of the past.
