The task was to create a brand identity for the festival, including a poster and event brochure design. My goal was to create a visual identity that would attract people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate art together. The chosen colors and illustration elements create an inviting and summery atmosphere.
Art comes from the heart, and the slogan I came up with, "taiteen syke" ("the pulse of art") brings together all kinds of creative people around shared experiences. I visualized the slogan as a star emerging from the heart and spreading everywhere, emphasizing how through art, we share a part of ourselves with the world.
A major inspiration was the graffiti art and DIY spirit at the festival location, Sopenkorpi’s Kesanto. I wanted to connect my visual identity with the event venue by using textures in the designs that mimic spray paint.
While searching for images of the venue, I saw photos of both real windflowers, as well as handmade ones out of recycled plastic bags. Windflowers bloom in July during the festival, that's why I chose them as visual reference to the time and place of the festival. Inspired by the DIY spirit, the windflowers on the poster were cut from paper and scanned.
